John
14:1
Let
not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Comment:
Believing
in “me” (Jesus) is the same as believing in “God”.
God and Jesus are the same “One”.
John 14:7
If
ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth
ye know him, and have seen him.
Comment:
To know Jesus (“me”) is to know the “Father”; therefore, the
two are the same (One). The disciples were specifically told
that they knew the Father and have seen the Father because
they knew and had seen Jesus (“me”). The “Father” and “me”
are the same “One”.
John 14:9
Jesus
saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not
known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou
then, Show us the Father?
Comment:
Again, Jesus states that anyone “that hath seen me hath seen the
Father.”
Therefore, “me”(Jesus) and the Father are One and the same.
In John 14, Jesus describes
the “Trinity” using terms of “God, I, Me, Father,
Comforter, Son, Spirit of truth, Holy Ghost, and Holy Spirit”:
John
14:10
Believest thou
not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak
unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth
the works.
Comment:
“I” (Jesus)
is in the Father and the Father is in “me“ (Jesus).
Also, the “words” “I” (Jesus) speak are “of the Father” who
does the “works”. Here, “words” and “works” are equated.
This is likely to be referring
to Genesis 1:3-29 where “God said...”and the
“works” (creation) were done along with reference to John1:1-3 where “...
the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
John 14:11
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me: or
else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Comment:
Another
tie-in of “words” and “works” being equated, and
where “I” (Jesus) is in the Father and the Father in “me” (Jesus).
John 14:16,
17
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom
the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither know him: but
ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Comment:
Jesus
told the disciples that the “Comforter” and the “Spirit of
truth”
are the same. He also stated that the Comforter “dwelleth with
you”
which would have to be a reference to Jesus who “dwelleth with
you”
at the time this was spoken. That ties the “Comforter” and Jesus
as being One and the same. Jesus also said the “Comforter” “shall
be in you” to
show that He (Jesus -- the Comforter) will dwell in them at
a future time.
So far, we have Jesus, God,
and the Father being One, as well as Jesus, the Comforter, and the Spirit
of truth being the same (One).
John 14:18
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Comment:
The
word “comfortless” comes from “orphanos” meaning: “bereaved,
parentless, comfortless, fatherless” and is more accurately
(and usually) translated as “orphans”. Jesus told the disciples “I” (Jesus)
will not leave the disciples as orphans: i.e. Jesus would not
leave them Fatherless and goes on to state He (Jesus - Father)
would come to them. So, Jesus and the Father are the same (One).
In previous Scripture (verse
14:17), the Comforter and Jesus are the same (One). So, Jesus, the Father,
and the Comforter are the same (One).
John 14:23
... and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him,
and make our abode with him.
Comment:
The
uses of “we” and “our” show plurality and the context indicates
that Jesus and the Father are the same “One” doing the same things.
John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things ...
Comment:
Tied
in with verses 14:16 & 17, this defines the “Comforter”,
the “Spirit
of truth”
and the “Holy Ghost” (Holy Spirit) as One and the same.
John 15:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you
from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the
Father, he shall testify of me:
Comment:
Here, Jesus states “... I will send unto you ... “. John 14:26
states “...
the Father will send ...”. Again, Jesus and the Father are shown
to be the same One doing the same things.
SUMMARY COMMENT:
The
above Scripture show that Jesus, the Father, the Comforter,
the Spirit of truth and the Holy Spirit are ONE and the same. This
is plainly stated in :
Isa 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince
of Peace.
